Chapter 60: Jimmy's Baptism!!
Happy Monday! I hope that you all had a great week!
We were able to have another lesson with our friend Pius and his family this week! We taught them about the Restoration of the Gospel, Joseph Smith, and The Book of Mormon. All of the kids had a bunch of really good questions and it was so fun to be able to answer them. On Sunday, they all came to church! It is so incredible to see their family open up to the Gospel and have the desire to learn more.
The best day of the week was Thursday because Jimmy got baptized!! It was such an amazing day! Leading up to it was a little stressful, but everything worked out great. There was such a special spirit that was present as Jimmy made his first covenant with God. There were so many people from the ward that came to support him, and after his baptism he had such a light about him. He looked so happy and new. On Sunday, he was able to be confirmed a member of the church and receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. He has changed so much and seeing him be baptized was one of the best moments of my mission. I feel so honored that I had the opportunity to be a small part of his story, and I am so grateful for all the past missionaries that helped him get to where he is now. I am excited to see him continue on the covenant path and one day enter the House of the Lord.
This past week, I was also able to go on exchanges. I went with Sister Keel in their area. It was a really fun exchange! We did quite a bit of knocking, and we were able to talk with quite a few people! Their area also covers part of downtown Portland, so I made her take me. We were able to walk around and invite people to come to church with us. It was a really great day and I am so glad that I was able to get to know Sister Keel better!
Today we got transfer news, and I am leaving Beaverton. I don't know where I am going or who my new companion will be, but I know that the Lord will put me where I am needed. I have loved my time here in Beaverton! I have been able to grow so much and I have come closer to my Savior. The people that I met here will always have a special place in my heart, and I will miss serving them.
Spiritual Thought: Entering this fall season has brought a lot of change. Change in the colors and weather, and now, a change in area that I will be serving in. I have never been the biggest fan of change, and I get a little nervous when things change. However, I love this verse from The Book of Mormon Another Testament of Jesus Christ:
"Behold, God is my salvation; I will trust, and not be afraid; for the Lord Jehovah is my strength and my song; he also has become my salvation (2 Nephi 22:2)."
I know that even though change can be scary, I can trust in the Lord and know that everything will be alright. I have felt his strength help me through a lot of different things, and I know that it will help me now.
Have a wonderful week! I love you all!
Love,
- Sister Willie
