Chapter 36: Best Day Ever!

Happy Wednesday! I am taking my extra p-day today because I was in the Visitors' Center yesterday. I hope you are all having a wonderful week.

We found a new friend to teach this week! Her name is Meka and she is the stepdaughter of a Marshallese member in our ward! She is really sweet, and we are excited to continue teaching her. (hopefully with a translator because she doesn't really understand English all that well)

Saturday was quite possibly the best day I have had on my mission! I got to go to Lorelai's baptism! Lorelai is a friend I started teaching in November and kept teaching until I left the area in March. She wasn't able to be baptized for a long time because her mom wouldn't say yes. However, through so many prayers and the power of the Spirit, her mom said she could get baptized. Since I was in the Visitors' Center on Saturday, I was able to go! It was such a special day and the Spirit was so strong. Lorelai was literally glowing, and now she is excited to go and do baptisms for the dead at the temple. It has been such a blessing to teach and know her. She is definitely one of my Portland angels.

Spiritual Thought: Here are some scriptures that I have really enjoyed recently. It is Mosiah 24: 14-15, and it says:

"And I will also ease the burdens which are put upon your shoulders, that even you cannot feel them upon your backs, even while you are in bondage; and this will I do that ye may stand as witnesses for me hereafter, and that ye may know of a surety that I, the Lord God, do visit my people in their afflictions. And now it came to pass that the burdens which were laid upon Alma and his brethren were made light; yea, the Lord did strengthen them that they could bear up their burdens with ease, and they did submit cheerfully and with patience to all the will of the Lord."

I love how these verses show us that the Lord will strengthen us and lift our burdens, but he won't take them away. Sometimes I tend to have the mindset that the Lord will just take away my struggles, but if He did that, we wouldn't be able to grow. Even though we will have hard times and struggles, the Lord will strengthen us as we turn to Him.

Have a fabulous week! I love you all!
