Chapter 62: Exchanges, Horse Meat, And A Shop Vac
Happy almost Thanksgiving everyone! I hope you had a wonderful week!
We got to go on exchanges this week! I went with Sister Sharp in their area, which is a islander ward. We spent our day knocking doors and searching for Pohnpeians that we could talk to and hopefully teach. Along with that, we got to have dinner with two of their members! They took us to a Chinese restaurant and they were super sweet. It was a really fun exchange, and I am excited to serve with Sister Sharp this transfer!
This past week we had Zone Conference, and it was literally amazing! We talked about the Doctrine of Christ and making our discipleship our highest priority (following President Nelson's invitation). I really felt the Spirit and I want to constantly be doing those things that will bring me closer to Jesus Christ. For lunch, they had the Columbia River Ward (the islander ward) make us food. They made us a whole feast and it included some of their traditional dishes like taro root, lamb with spinach in milk, and horse. I was bold and tried the horse meat, and I would give it a solid 6 out of 10.
We were able to have a lesson with our friend Babone, and talk more about the Book of Mormon with him. He didn't understand what it was and the importance of it, so we were able to reexplain and reteach it to him. And now he understands it! Later, we were able to help his daughter, Esperance, who is our recent convert, write a talk for church. Then on Sunday, she did such a good job giving it and it was really sweet to hear her testimony.
Sister Webb, me, and the Elders we ward share with, were able to go and do service for a lady in our ward named Debbie. We got to clean up her lawn and patio. It was so much fun! I was able to use a shop vac to suck up the leaves that were stuck in her shrubbery, and it was one of the funnest things I have done. I haven't done service for a long time, and it felt so nice to be able to serve someone who needed help.
Spiritual Thought: "Now my brethren, we see that God is mindful of every people, whatsoever land they may be in; yea, he numbereth his people, and his bowels of mercy are over all the earth. Now this is my joy, and my great thanksgiving; yea, and I will give thanks unto my God forever. Amen (Alma 26:37)."
I love the emphasis that Ammon makes on being thankful in this verse from The Book of Mormon. He reminds us all that we have been given so many wonderful things, and that God loves each one of us. Since Thanksgiving is this week, I would love to invite all of you to notice one specific thing each day that you are grateful for. I know that you will be able to recognize the tender mercies that the Lord gives us each day.
I am grateful for my Savior, and for each one of you! Have a wonderful week!
Love,
- Sister Willie
