Chapter 62: Exchanges, Horse Meat, And A Shop Vac

Image
Happy almost Thanksgiving everyone! I hope you had a wonderful week! We got to go on exchanges this week! I went with Sister Sharp in their area, which is a islander ward. We spent our day knocking doors and searching for Pohnpeians that we could talk to and hopefully teach. Along with that, we got to have dinner with two of their members! They took us to a Chinese restaurant and they were super sweet. It was a really fun exchange, and I am excited to serve with Sister Sharp this transfer!  This past week we had Zone Conference, and it was literally amazing! We talked about the Doctrine of Christ and making our discipleship our highest priority (following President Nelson's invitation). I really felt the Spirit and I want to constantly be doing those things that will bring me closer to Jesus Christ. For lunch, they had the Columbia River Ward (the islander ward) make us food. They made us a whole feast and it included some of their traditional dishes like taro root, lamb with spina...

Chapter 61: Beaverton --> Gresham

Hello everyone! I hope you have all had a great week! We had transfers this past week, so I had to say goodbye to all of our friends and ward members in Beaverton and Summerlake. It was bittersweet, but I am so grateful for all the relationships I have made serving in these two wonderful wards.  I am now serving in Gresham in the Glendoveer ward!! I am companions with Sister Webb! She is super awesome and I am really excited to serve with her. Gresham is on the opposite side of the mission from my last area, so it is really different. But I know that this is where the Lord needs me to be and I am looking forward to all the people I will meet and serve!  I have already been able to meet quite a few of our friends and have lessons with them. Our friend Mary is so sweet, and we were able to have a really good lesson with her about the sacrament and baptism. She has the desire to be baptized, so we are hoping to help her make her first covenant with God soon! We had two lessons wi...

Chapter 60: Jimmy's Baptism!!

Happy Monday! I hope that you all had a great week! We were able to have another lesson with our friend Pius and his family this week! We taught them about the Restoration of the Gospel, Joseph Smith, and The Book of Mormon. All of the kids had a bunch of really good questions and it was so fun to be able to answer them. On Sunday, they all came to church! It is so incredible to see their family open up to the Gospel and have the desire to learn more.  The best day of the week was Thursday because Jimmy got baptized!! It was such an amazing day! Leading up to it was a little stressful, but everything worked out great. There was such a special spirit that was present as Jimmy made his first covenant with God. There were so many people from the ward that came to support him, and after his baptism he had such a light about him. He looked so happy and new. On Sunday, he was able to be confirmed a member of the church and receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. He has changed so much and se...

Chapter 59: Counting My Blessings

Image
Hello everyone! We are having our extra pday today after taking our turn to serve at the Visitors' Center this past Monday.  We saw so many miracles this week! We were able to have a sit down lesson with Pius and his family. We met his wife, who is really really sweet, and he also invited one of their uncles to join us! It was so cool to be able to teach all of them about the Book of Mormon. They are interested in learning more and continuing to meet with us and come to church! It has been a dream of mine to be able to teach a family on my mission, and now I have the opportunity to do that!  Update on Jimmy- we took him to the temple and gave him a tour around the grounds. He loved being able to go inside the indoor atrium and feel the peace that comes from being inside the House of the Lord. We were bold with him and told him that if he wanted to get baptized on the 7th, he couldn't smoke anymore. And he is doing it! Jimmy is going to get baptized tomorrow!! It has been so in...
